Casement

Hinged at the side and cranked outward, pulling shut against a compression seal all the way round.

Best for: Rooms that need real airflow without breaking the glass line — kitchens, bedrooms, anywhere facing a breeze.

Hover the drawing to see how it opens.

Overview

A casement swings out on a side hinge and pulls closed against a compression seal, which is why it is the tightest-sealing operable window in the collection. Paired with fixed units it gives an elevation controlled airflow without breaking the glass line. Multi-point hardware locks the sash at several points along the jamb.

Is this the right system?

Choose it when

  • You want the tightest-sealing operable window we make
  • The full opening should clear for ventilation
  • There is room outside for the sash to swing

Consider instead

  • Awning — if the window must stay open in the rain.
  • Horizontal Sliding — if nothing may project into a walkway or terrace.

Configurations

  • Single casement

One outswing sash, left or right hand.

  • Paired casement

Two sashes meeting at a shared mullion.

  • Casement with fixed

Operable sash flanking a fixed lite in one frame.

  • Casement with transom

Fixed lite above the operable sash.

Glazing

  • Impact Laminated (standard)

Heat-strengthened lites with a structural interlayer. Large and Small Missile Impact, HVHZ approved.

  • Low-E Insulated

Insulating unit with a solar-control coating to reduce heat gain without dimming the view.

  • Acoustic Laminated

Thicker interlayer tuned for airport, highway and dense urban sites.

  • Tinted & Reflective

Grey, bronze and blue-green body tints, or a reflective coating for west-facing elevations.

Finishes

  • Class I Anodized

Clear, champagne, medium bronze and black — a hard, integral finish for coastal exposure.

  • Architectural Powder Coat

AAMA 2604 polyester finish in the standard Fortwell range, including matte black and warm grey.

  • Custom RAL

Any RAL or custom-matched colour to project specification, minimum quantities apply.
